Have you ever wondered what it means to have a teachable heart? In this episode, I’m breaking it down for you, and sharing why it’s so important for spiritual growth.

So what exactly does it mean to have a teachable heart?

It’s having a mind that’s open to what God has to teach you, a humble spirit willing to accept wisdom and guidance, and a deep hunger for learning.

Imagine having a mindset that says, “Hey, I don’t have all the answers, but I’m good with that because there’s always room to grow and learn.”

That, my friend, is the core of a teachable heart. It’s about embracing new ideas, being open to different perspectives, and understanding that learning is a journey, not a destination.

In today’s show, I’ll uncover…

  • what it means to have a teachable heart and why it’s so important for spiritual growth
  • 6 Characteristics of a teachable heart
  • the common obstacles that keep us from having a teachable heart
  • 3 powerful prayers to cultivate a willing heart

Why You Need a Teachable Heart

Teach me, O Lord, the way of Your statutes, And I will [steadfastly] observe it to the end. Give me understanding [a teachable heart and the ability to learn], that I may keep Your law; And observe it with all my heart. Psalm 119:33-35 AMP

Let’s start by answering why having a teachable heart is so important.

Picture your heart as a garden.

When you nurture it with the qualities of a teachable heart, it starts to bloom and grow in ways you never thought possible.

We’re talking spiritual growth – not just stagnant water, but an actual flowing river of growth.

Think about it like this: God created us to keep moving, to keep growing and to stay in motion. A teachable heart keeps that motion alive.

Quote: A teachable heart keeps that motion alive.

Cultivating a teachable heart gives you discernment to process and handle the decisions you face every day.

It’s what helps you see things more clearly, distinguishing between what’s good and what isn’t. And the deep connection you foster with God throughout this growth is incredible!

It’s like having a heart-to-heart chat with your best friend, but this best friend happens to be The Creator of the universe.

Can you imagine the kind of transformation that brings?

How to Pray for Someone You Love (When You Feel Helpless)

We’ve all said it at one time or another. “All I can do is pray.”

Maybe someone you love is facing a difficult diagnosis. Your adult child is going through something you can’t fix, or a close friend is struggling, and no matter how much you want to help, there’s nothing you can do to make things better.

You’ve offered advice, tried to help, and done everything you know to do.

And when you’ve finally run out of options, you find yourself saying those six little words — All I can do is pray.

But have you ever stopped to think about what we’re really saying when we use those words?

Because somewhere along the way, many of us started treating prayer like the thing we turn to when everything else has failed.

We know God hears our prayers and we believe He has the power to change things. But when someone we love is hurting, it’s hard to feel like we’re helping when we can’t actually do anything to change their circumstances.

And that’s where we need to look at intercessory prayer, and how to pray for someone you love, a little differently.

Why Do I Keep Starting Over With God?

Have you ever found yourself saying, “I’ll start again with God next week.”

Maybe you used to start your mornings with prayer, but lately your Bible has stayed closed and you feel like you’re constantly trying to catch up with God.

Maybe life has started demanding more than usual.

The kids need to be picked up, dinner still needs to be made and the laundry pile is growing faster than you can fold it. And by the time you finally sit down at the end of the day, you’re too exhausted to even say a prayer.

At first, you tell yourself you’ll get back to it tomorrow — but tomorrow comes and goes. Then a few more days pass. Before long, missing one day turns into three, then three days turn into a week.

And that’s when the guilt starts creeping in. Before you know it, you’re thinking to yourself, “I’ve failed again.”

Or maybe it’s been longer than a week. Maybe it’s been months — even years — since you really felt close to God, and you’re wondering if starting over is even possible at this point.

Either way, the question underneath is the same. Why do I keep ending up here?
