Life is hard, and at times, we just don't have the words. We often feel disconnected with God in the midst of our challenges. So why do we need to pray if God already knows?
We’ve all been there, feeling like God is nowhere to be found. We’ve prayed and prayed until we’ve had no more words.
So today I’m getting to the bottom of the question: why do we need to pray if God already knows?

WHY DO WE NEED TO PRAY IF GOD ALREADY KNOWS
So if our Heavenly Father already knows what we ‘re thinking and what we need, why on earth to we even need to ask?
In today’s show, I’ll share 3 crucial reasons for taking our prayers and petitions to the Lord.
- Acknowledging our dependence on Him
- Finding rest and comfort
- Embracing our weaknesses
ACKNOWLEDGING OUR DEPENDENCE ON GOD
Ever find yourself in a situation where words fail, and it feels like God might be on mute?
You’re not alone.
But Psalm 55:22 assures us about the importance of taking your trials and challenges to God.
Cast your burden on the Lord [releasing the weight of it] and He will sustain you; He will never allow the [consistently] righteous to be moved (made to slip, fall, or fail). AMPC
Doing this is like a heart-to-heart chat with a close friend. Struggling with prayer and what words to pray, doesn’t make you a ‘bad Christian.’
In fact, there’s an entire book in the Bible (Lamentations) that teaches us the importance of taking all our feelings to Him – no matter how frustrated we feel.
WE DON’T NEED TO HAVE THE “RIGHT” WORDS
Sometimes, just standing in His Presence, brings us the comfort we’re so desperately seeking.
Romans 8:25-26 reminds us that in His great mercy, we don’t need to speak at all.
“So because our hope is set on what is yet to be seen, we patiently keep on waiting for its fulfillment. And in a similar way, the Holy Spirit takes hold of us in our human frailty to empower us in our weakness. For example, at times we don’t even know how to pray, or know the best things to ask for. But the Holy Spirit rises up within us to super-intercede on our behalf, pleading to God with emotional sighs too deep for words.” TPT
So when you’re not sure what to say, you can rest assured the Spirit steps in on your behalf.
It’s like God is saying, “I got this – and I got you!”
Embracing Our WeaknessES
Let’s talk about embracing our not-so-superhero moments.
Society teaches us we have to pull ourselves up by our, “big girl pants,” and “you got this, girl.”
But when we’re walking close to God we don’t have to be strong. We don’t need to do it all on our own.
In 2 Corinthians 12:9, we learn what our Heavenly Father said to the apostle Paul when Paul was at his weakest.
“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” NIV
When you’re feeling like you can’t handle the struggles around you, that’s when God’s strength takes the spotlight.
So embrace your “not-so-strong” moments because that’s where God’s awesome strength, grace and mercy shines brightest.
