Warning: Elaine’s story is a tough one, and though I believe she offers a lot of hope for victims of PTSD and brain injuries, if you’re easily triggered, listen to this episode with extreme caution. It may not be suited for young children.
where was god in my trauma
In today’s episode, Elaine takes us back to almost 4 years ago when in the blink of the eye, a routine surgical procedure turned into her worst nightmare.
Elaine’s trauma is an unbelievable series of events that should have never happened.
- Woke up on the operating room table TWICE.
- Went without oxygen for 11 full minutes, but was discharged without being told.
- Was discharged without the ability to swallow.
- Was treated as a strangulation victim (just 24 hours later) caused by the doctor trying to open her airway. (Still having no idea she was without oxygen.)
Elaine is the only known survivor in the world to have gone without oxygen for as long as she did, and boy oh boy did God have a plan for her!
When a chance encounter led her to John’s Hopkins, she began to work with anesthesiologists to form the One Breath from Death Program, teaching anesthesiologists and hospitals from all over the world how to prevent anything like this from ever happening again.
What I love about Elaine’s story, is that through this trauma, she can look back and see that as painful as it’s been, God had a hand in it all along.
I love how God is bringing beauty from this horrific trauma and how He is using Elaine to save millions of lives.

WHAT’S COMING UP
In episode #4 of A Faithful God Podcast, I sit down with my friend, Ali from Chronic Illness Warrior Life, as we talk about living with a bipolar diagnosis.
Ali shares how she “awakened” after 10 days in the hospital to find she had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder.
I love how Ali shares that she never felt shame from this diagnosis, but knew right from the beginning that because of her relationship with God, He had a plan for her.
Ali explains what mania and psychosis means and why bipolar patients so often go off their medications.
This is such an incredible conversation with Ali and whether you have bipolar disorder, know someone with it, or just want to learn more about it, you won’t want to miss this episode.
