Where is god in my bipolar
In today’s show, I sit down with Quina Porter as she shares her journey through divorce, bipolar disorder, and what it was like to have suicidal thoughts.
Quina shares how shortly after being married, she knew something was wrong; but because she believes so fully in the sanctification of marriage, she leaned into God to do what she could to make it work.
She tells us how after being diagnosed with depression, she was prescribed a combination of medications that unbeknownst to her, were only supposed to be taken temporarily. Quina fell into a depression so deep, thoughts of suicide began to creep in, while her friends and family came together to be on suicide watch.
Quina remembers how angry she was at God that she didn’t get to choose whether or not she existed. She states that the only thing that kept her from taking her life, is that she didn’t want her family and husband to have to deal with what she did, especially if she didn’t succeed.
She shares what a relief it was to finally receive a diagnosis of bipolar disorder. She felt validated for the first time in her life, and it was in this time that she finally began to heal.
You’re going to love my conversation with Quina as she shares how even in the pain, she could hear God asking, “Do you trust me?”
I love that there is no shame in her diagnosis (nor should there be) and how Quina has allowed God to use her story to encourage others in a time when they feel all hope is lost.
It’s been a pleasure getting to know her and I have no doubt you’re going to love her just as much as I do!
