What to do When You Feel Unworthy of God’s Love

Woman looking frustrated with her head in her hands.
If I had a dime for every time someone told me they didn’t feel worthy of God’s love, I’d be a rich woman. And it breaks my heart every time I hear it. So in today’s show, I’m uncovering what to do when you feel unworthy of God’s love.

My friend, if I could come through your screen right now and wrap you in a hug, I’d tell you…”I know.”

I understand how crippling it can feel when you don’t feel worthy enough to stand before God in prayer; when you feel like there’s absolutely no way God could love a person like you.

So in this episode, I’m sharing…

  • why you feel unworthy of God’s love and grace (and it’s probably not what you think).
  • 4 practical steps you can take when the self-doubt creeps in, and you’re feeling unworthy of God’s love.

Unworthy of God’s love

Because this is such a common struggle, I dedicate an entire lesson to this topic inside the Confident Prayer Warrior Program. (So you’re not alone, my friend.)

So many women have the same questions and uncertainty surrounding God’s unconditional love for us.

  • How can He love a person like me — someone who’s made one mistake after another?
  • How can God’s love be unconditional when I continue to make the same mistake again and again?
  • Why is His love so important to understand?

In today’s show, I’m addressing these very questions and breaking down what our Father’s unconditional love really means for us.

we’re Worthy Because of His Love

Psalm 139:13-14 teaches us that God created us with incredible intention and love.

“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” NIV

As we’ll discuss in this episode, this passage demonstrates that we are wonderfully made by God and, therefore, valuable. Not because of anything we’ve done, but because of our Father’s great love for us.

Our worth doesn’t depend on our past, present, or future actions. There’s nothing we can do to increase His love, and there’s nothing we can do to decrease His love for us.

As we’ll discover, our worth is anchored entirely in God’s unchanging nature and His actions toward us. It can’t be earned; it can only be received.

HOW DO WE RECEIVE GOD’S LOVE

Recognizing where these feelings come from is crucial (hint: it’s probably not what you think). And when we’re feeling unworthy of God’s love, we must remember that feelings aren’t facts.

We have to stand on what we know to be true, even when we don’t feel it.

And in this episode, I’ll break down four steps you can take when you’re feeling unworthy of God’s love.

WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU FEEL UNWORTHY OF GOD’S LOVE

Remember, you’re a beautiful child of God, wonderfully made and so very loved.

You’re worthy — not because of anything you have or haven’t done — but because of God and His great love and mercy. You don’t have to do anything to earn His love. You just have to receive it and be changed by it (and I’ll show you how).

Lord, Help My Unbelief: A Prayer When Faith Feels Hard

You’ve prayed about it more times than you can count.

At first, you prayed with confidence. You believed God was working even when you couldn’t yet see it. But now you’re praying about the same situation for the third year in a row.

And somewhere in the middle of another prayer, you think, “I don’t even know if I believe this will change anymore.”

Almost as quickly as you think it, the guilt creeps in. I mean, what kind of Christian doubts God while she prays?

Maybe nothing is really wrong.

You’re getting up in the morning, going to work, making dinner. You’re answering texts, taking care of the people you love and doing the things that need to get done.

And you’re even praying.

But somewhere along the way, you realize you’re going through the motions more than actually enjoying any of it — and you miss feeling like yourself.
