Congratulations! If you’re reading this post, that means you’ve enrolled in Elite Blog Academy, but now what?
First, let me start off by telling you that I believe with my whole heart that you’ve made one of the most important investments of your life. You’ve just enrolled in the only blogging course of it’s kind. One that, as you know, is only available 5 days out of the entire year.
This is essentially a college blogging course and will take you step by step through exactly what you need to do to run a profitable blog.

Now that you’re enrolled and are ready to get started, let’s talk about what needs to be done to make the most out of this class. We’re all in different stages of our blogging careers, so I’m going to break it down so you can pick up wherever you are in your journey.
There are three very important things that you should do no matter what stage you’re in.
- Put your blinders on
This is a tough one, my friend. There are so many valuable resources available to bloggers and it can be completely mind-boggling. So I say to you, stay focused!
If you need to unsubscribe to some of the newsletters you’re currently receiving, then do it. I know, I know, it’s hard to do that because “Oh my goodness! What if we miss out on something?” Here’s the thing. Absolutely everything you need to know right now is in Elite Blog Academy.
Eventually, you’ll move on to more resources, but that time is not now. At this moment, you need to put your blinders on and stay focused on your assignments only.
- Complete every single assignment before moving on to the next unit
Seriously, every single step. The most successful EBA alumni are successful for this very reason. You’ve spent your hard earned money on the class, so I know you want to succeed.
I’ll be honest with you, there are some assignments that I didn’t want to complete. They took me completely out of my comfort zone, so it was extremely difficult. But let’s face it….did you take this class to stay in your comfort zone and not grow, not learn, and not succeed? Nope! So I can’t stress this enough – complete every single assignment.
- Learn to Time Block your way through the day
If you aren’t familiar with time blocking, see my post, Time Management Made Easy – Time Blocking. This one simple step completely changed the way I work and blew my productivity out of the water. It will help you stay focused and accomplish your goals.
IF YOU ALREADY HAVE A BLOG
You already know your way around your platform, so follow the steps above. They will help you work through what you need to do with your assignments. Take them seriously and make EBA a priority.
IF YOU’RE JUST STARTING YOUR BLOG
I realize a lot, if not all, of the following steps, will be like learning a new language to you. Let’s face it, it essentially is. Just hang in there, follow the steps and in no time, everything will start falling into place.
- Choose your blog name and purchase your domain.
You’d think this would be an easy task, but for a lot of us bloggers, not so much. It’s important to really put some thought into your name. You’ll want it to be something that people will find when they are doing a Google and Pinterest search. You also want to make sure it’s relevant and makes sense when it comes to what you’re blogging about. Also, consider your social media platforms. It’s important for your “names” on social media to be as close to your blog name as possible. Try to avoid having extra spaces or underscores if at all possible.
I strongly suggest you go with a “.com” domain as opposed to any of the others (ie. “.net” “.org”) This is something that everyone is used to typing so it’s important to keep it simple and easy for people to access.
Important tip: Make a list of possible names you’re interested in. When brainstorming, do not go in and search your desired names until you’re ready to purchase. A domain name is pretty darn cheap, however, there are some dishonest people out there and when you start searching names and don’t purchase right then, they will grab that domain out from under you, and then try to sell it to you for big, big bucks. Not cool, right? But it happens. So brainstorm on paper first and be ready to purchase when you sit down to search your possibilities.
Also, I recommend purchasing your domain name and hosting (you can find information about hosting below) through two different companies to keep your site more secure. There are a lot of places available to purchase your domain. I got mine through NameCheap.

- Begin looking at different blogs to get an idea of what you want yours to look like
What I mean by this is look at the different styles of blogs. What do you like about them? What do you dislike? What colors are you drawn to? What are your favorite fonts? There will be a chapter on this in Elite Blog Academy, so it’ll give you a “leg-up” when you get there.
- Set up hosting
Your site has to be “hosted” by someone. I use SiteGround and highly recommend them. They have great customer service which I’ve used on several occasions – by phone, online chat, and email – and they’ve responded promptly, walked me through step by step, and made sure I understood the process before finishing up the conversation.

- Set up your platform
Since you’re enrolled in EBA, I’m going to assume that you want to monetize your blog. Therefore, you’ll need a WordPress account. Make sure you get WordPress.org, not WordPress.com. There’s a difference. The following resource is going to make this step very easy!
Grayson Bell from IMark Interactive has a detailed post, How to Start a WordPress Blog, but here’s the cool news….Grayson will set up your site for FREE! So yes, you can go through his post and set it up yourself, but since Grayson does it for FREE, why not just let him?!

- Choose your theme
Here’s where it gets really fun! I think I could honestly be a “theme junkie.” The theme is what makes your site pretty and there are an endless amount of themes available – ranging anywhere from free to a “whole mess of money.” But here’s the thing, if you have Grayson set up your site, he has a lot of gorgeous paid themes that are included in his free installation set-up. It’s a win/win, my friend!
My favorite company for themes is Restored 316. Oh my goodness! They have an array of absolutely stunning themes to choose from and I could spend hours looking through them. (ahem, and I have!) I also love the customer service they provide and all the resources available on their website to help you customize your theme. (Bonus…..they’re free when you have Grayson set up your site!)
- Learn how to navigate your WordPress dashboard
The WordPress dashboard is where you’re going to be spending all of your time. If you haven’t worked in a program like this before, be patient. As with anything, there’s a learning curve that goes along with it. But, again my friend, Grayson Bell has you covered! He has a free WordPress course, teaching you how to navigate your dashboard. What I love is that you have lifetime access, so you can go back through it over and over again as needed. (And I have!) He also keeps it up-to-date, adding new chapters as needed.
Probably the best part of this course is that after you have completed it, you can join his private Facebook group where you can post questions and get help from him (and others in the group). Seriously guys, typically someone would charge a lot of money to get this kind of help from a tech guy and all of this is free!
So there you have it! Once you get through these steps, you can focus on working through your Elite Blog Academy assignments without having to work backward. (Ask me how I know about working backward…..twice!)
