There’s absolutely nothing like going after your goals.
Stepping out of your comfort zone, working your tail off, getting to your deadline and accomplishing that very thing that you’ve worked so incredibly hard for… it’s a feeling like nothing else!
One of the biggest challenges of accomplishing your goals is staying motivated when you get to that messy middle. After the newness and excitement start to wear off, you begin to think of a million other things you’d rather do.
In fact, it’s the very reason over 80% of New Year’s resolutions fail by the beginning of February.
Let’s face it, if it were easy to achieve our goals, everyone would be living their dream life, and you and I both know that is just not happening!

A strong emotional attachment
In order to keep going when it gets hard and you’re ready to quit, you must have a strong emotional attachment to your goal.
Ask yourself, “How will my life change when I achieve this goal? How will my life be easier? What will make me happy and confident in what I’m doing?”
Perhaps you’re in a constant state of worry and not able to enjoy your life because you are living paycheck to paycheck and ready to start that debt-free journey.
Consider how different your life will be if you were to pay off debt and have a healthy emergency fund set up. How will it change your life? What will it feel like to have control for the first time in your life and not live paycheck to paycheck… or worse, not even make it to the next paycheck?
Maybe you’ve always dreamed of taking your entire family on a vacation or retire and travel the world. (Seem like something that’s completely unattainable? Then I say you aren’t dreaming big enough, my friend, but that’s a post for another day!) How will you feel when you accomplish it? What will having the luxury of traveling whenever and wherever do for you?
Maybe you’ll finally be free of the bondage a nine to five job holds you to. You’ll most definitely feel exhilarated every morning when you wake up excited to see what the next adventure brings for you!
What is a vision board?
A vision board is simply a tool to help you envision what you really want in life and keeps you focused and motivated to continue moving forward.
It can be one of the most powerful tools in your goal crushing arsenal. It’ll serve as a reminder of what you want your life to look like and help you embrace the changes you need to make in order to get there.
I keep my vision board right in front of me at all times and make a point to review it every morning. This way, I’m ensuring that the tasks on my Daily Conquer List™ are getting me closer to my goals.
If they aren’t, I tweak my schedule so that I’m sure to produce. (By the way, “producing” can mean just about anything here. Not just making money, but whatever it is that is propelling you forward and towards your goals.)
A vision board can be made out of almost anything you want. A corkboard, a beautiful picture frame (although I recommend a frame that opens from the front – more on this below), even a metal grid.
Truthfully, there is an endless possibility of materials out there.
I actually use a grid “board” and got mine for under $15 at Target. It’s inexpensive, looks classy, and allows me to switch things out as needed.
The most important thing to remember about a vision board or any other goal conquering tool is that it only works if you do!
How to create a vision board
- Set your goals.
- Gather inspirational pictures that represent your goals. (For instance, one of my big goals is to spend 3 months in Italy when we retire, so I have a beautiful picture of the Italian coast to keep me motivated.)
- Download our free vision board printables (pictured above). You can find them in our Community Library. Simply subscribe to our newsletter below and get instant access to them and all of our FREE resources.
- Arrange and decorate your vision board in a way that will inspire you every day.
Tips for creating a vision board that works for you
- Get a board that’ll allow you easy access. As you work through your goals from week to week, month to month, and year to year, your goals will change and may need to be tweaked. It’s important that you have a board that is easily accessible so you can easily update it.
For instance, a picture frame that you have to pull off the wall and open the back can be cumbersome to change. If you’d like something like that, perhaps get a Shadow Box that opens from the front.
Remember: the whole point of having a vision board is to motivate you. If it’s going to be difficult to access, you probably won’t mess with it.
- Make it inspiring. Print off pictures and our oh-so-cute vision board printables, or clip pictures from your favorite magazines. Use anything that inspires you, gets you excited about your goals, and will motivate you to keep going when you’re ready to quit.
- Hang your board where you can see it Every. Single. Day!
