Do you find yourself needing encouragement during a season of illness? Perhaps you have a chronic illness and are looking for the strength and the endurance you need to just put one foot in front of the other. Maybe you’re recovering from surgery and are thirsting for scripture to fill you up and give you the strength you need to heal.
Whether you’re experiencing physical or emotional pain, God is the one and only source that can and will get you through.
I personally rely on the power of God’s Word to arm myself to face the health challenges that I so often experience.
So today, I’ve put together some Bible verses that I use for strength and healing to help you endure some of your most challenging seasons.

Getting the most out of each verse
Though you’re looking for some bible verses to help you through your illnesses and challenges, sometimes it’s hard to understand what scripture is telling you.
I’ve found the best way to really dig deep and get a true understanding of scripture is to read from a handful of different translations. But you probably don’t have a handful of Bibles sitting on your bookshelf and let’s face it, it can get downright expensive to purchase several of them.
So I’ve got a better solution for you.
Simply go to Bible Gateway, type in the following verses, and choose different translations to meditate on. Super simple and a whole lot cheaper than trying to purchase that many Bibles!
I highly recommend writing each verse down in a prayer journal and then study one verse a day. It will not only help you to better understand each of the verses but will also aid in memorization. After all, there’s nothing like being able to recall a verse when you’re feeling too sick to pick up a Bible!
So let’s get started with those verses!
Bible verses for STRENGTH
Isaiah 41:10 NLT Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.
Philippians 4:19 NLT And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.
Isaiah 33:2 NLT But Lord, be merciful to us, for we have waited for you. Be our strong arm each day and our salvation in times of trouble.
Isaiah 40:29-31 AMPC He gives power to the faint and weary, and to him who has no might He increases strength [causing it to multiply and making it to abound]. 30 Even youths shall faint and be weary, and [selected] young men shall feebly stumble and fall exhausted; 31 But those who wait for the Lord [who expect, look for, and hope in Him] shall change and renew their strength and power; they shall lift their wings and mount up [close to God] as eagles [mount up to the sun]; they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint or become tired.
Matthew 11:28-30 NLT 28 Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls.30 For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”
Psalm 23 NLT 1 The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need. 2 He lets me rest in green meadows; he leads me beside peaceful streams. 3 He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name. 4 Even when I walk through the darkest valley. I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me. 5 You prepare a feast for me in the presence of my enemies. You honor me by anointing my head with oil. My cup overflows with blessings. 6 Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will live in the house of the Lord forever.
Psalm 73:26 NLT My health may fail, and my spirit may grow weak, but God remains the strength of my heart; he is mine forever.
Psalm 28:7 AMPC The Lord is my Strength and my [impenetrable] Shield; my heart trusts in, relies on, and confidently leans on Him, and I am helped; therefore my heart greatly rejoices, and with my song will I praise Him.
Bible Verses for Healing
Isaiah 38:16-17 NLT Lord, your discipline is good, for it leads to life and health. You restore my health and allow me to live! 17 Yes, this anguish was good for me, for you have rescued me from death and forgiven all my sins.
Proverbs 17:22 AMPC A happy heart is good medicine and a cheerful mind works healing, but a broken spirit dries up the bones.
Psalms 34:17-22 NLT 17 The Lord hears his people when they call to him for help. He rescues them from all their troubles. 18 The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed. 19 The righteous person faces many troubles, but the Lord comes to the rescue each time. 20 For the Lord protects the bones of the righteous; not one of them is broken! 21 Calamity will surely destroy the wicked, and those who hate the righteous will be punished. 22 But the Lord will redeem those who serve him. No one who takes refuge in him will be condemned.
Psalms 6:2 AMPC Have mercy on me and be gracious to me, O Lord, for I am weak (faint and withered away); O Lord, heal me, for my bones are troubled.
Psalm 30:10-11 NLT 10 Hear me, Lord, and have mercy on me. Help me, O Lord.” 11 You have turned my mourning into joyful dancing. You have taken away my clothes of mourning and clothed me with joy.
Psalm 103:2-5 NLT 2 Let all that I am praise the Lord; may I never forget the good things he does for me.3 He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases. 4 He redeems me from death and crowns me with love and tender mercies. 5 He fills my life with good things. My youth is renewed like the eagle’s!
Isaiah 58:8 NLT “Then your salvation will come like the dawn, and your wounds will quickly heal. Your godliness will lead you forward, and the glory of the Lord will protect you from behind.
Psalm 107:19-20 AMPC 19 Then they cry to the Lord in their trouble, and He delivers them out of their distresses.20 He sends forth His word and heals them and rescues them from the pit and destruction.
